George Dlugolonski
After graduating from SUNY Brockport in 1973, George Dlugolonski began at Chaminade High School, where he led the wrestling program to countless championships and sportsmanship awards.
Over four decades he served as an educator, mentor, friend, and advocate for the students he taught in the classroom and on the mat.
Throughout his career, Dlugolonski epitomized the John Wooden quote, “A good coach can change a game, a great coach can change a life.”
He led the Flyers to 536 career dual victories and retired as the all-time winningest coach on Long Island. Dlugolonski led his teams to 26 New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association league tournament titles and 20 league duals titles. His teams also won 16 Catholic High School Athletic Association state tournament titles, 14 sportsmanship awards and three state dual championships while also capturing a New York State Private & Parochial Invitational team title.
Dlugolonski coached 176 NSCHSAA league champions and 112 New York Catholic state champions. His wrestlers won 18 NYSPHSAA/NYS national medals while also capturing six NHSCA Academic All-America titles and four NHSCA All-America All-America titles. Tom Giella won the national prep championship in 1980 and Robert Murphy won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association state championship in 1986.
Dlugolonski also taught physical education and health at Chaminade and served as the department chair for many years. He coached freshman soccer and supported many of the schools extracurricular activities.
