Rick Iversen

Western Washington University 1972-1977 Marysville-Pilchuck High School 1978-1997 Rick Iversen attended Sedro-Woolley High School and wrestled for Hall of Fame Coach Ken Driskill and then continued to wrestle collegiately at Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University. Rick's first coaching position was the head wrestling coach for Western Washington University. Coach Iversen then moved to Marysville-Pilchuck High School as the head wrestling coach in 1978, a position he held for the next 19 years. His teams placed in the top four at state four times including two runner-up finishes in 1988 and 1991. Under Coach Iversen the Tomahawks captured many regional titles, one year they put 11 wrestlers in the finals and won ten of those matches. His career dual meet record at Marysville-Pilchuck was 188-63-2. Iversen coached four state champions and three of these were two-time champs including his son Craig. Both his sons, Sherm and Craig, went on to be head wrestling coaches in the Everett area. Iversen was the founder of the Marysville Freestyle Club and was an original member of the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Executive Board. The team scoreboards used at Mat Classic, the high school state wrestling championships, are the brainchild of Rick Iversen. With the help of some of his wrestling parents and community members, a large group of volunteers created the team scoreboards and have continued to staff the team scoreboards the past 20 Mat Classics to provide this important function for the state wrestling championships. Coach Rick Iversen was honored by his peers as the 1988 "AAA" Wrestling Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999. Rick and his wife Ginny reside in Arlington and run their independent dairy business. They also spend as much time as possible with their adult children, Kelly, Sherm and Craig, their families and four grandchildren.
