Marty Williams
Marty Williams began his wrestling career at Yorkville High School. In 1974 Marty won the IHSA State Championship at 145 pounds and was named Amateur Wrestling News All-American. He continued his wrestling career at the University of Illinois, where he was coached by Tom Porter. He was a four-year letterman and in 1978, co-captain of the U of I wrestling team. Upon college graduation, Marty coached at Parkland Community College for one season before becoming assistant coach at Mahomet-Seymour High School. He became the head wrestling coach at Mahomet-Seymour in 1982 and held that post for eight seasons. During that tenure, his teams compiled a dual meet record of 191-4 and were IHSA State Champions five times. Marty's teams still hold an IHSA record for most consecutive dual wins - 109. He coached 15 individual State Champions, 15 additional place winners and 51 state qualifiers. Marty left coaching in 1990 to begin a career in high school administration, where he has held positions of assistant principal, athletic director, associate principal and now principal of Mahomet-Seymour High School. In addition to his school service, Marty served as a coach of the Prairie State Games Blue and Gray division for five years and volunteered several years with the Junior National Teams. He coached and organized cultural exchanges for downstate Illinois with Cuba, Canada and West Germany. Marty also helped sponsor several IWF activities and was a longtime treasure of the IWCOA. In 1992, the IWCOA inducted Marty into its Hall of Fame.
