Lee and Joy Davids

If you grew up in the 1960's, 1970's or 1980's and you were involved in wrestling, you knew both Lee and Joy Davids. You know Lee as the tireless promoter of the sport, as the PR Chairman for the 1969 National AAU Championships held in Detroit, as an officer of the Michigan Wrestling Club, or as the man who sold you your first pair of wrestling shoes or your first headgear. You knew Joy as the lady who was the first one you saw in the gym as she prepared the pairings and bout cards, as the one who directed a small army of volunteers running the tournament and perhaps most memorably as the kind lady who took your picture on the awards podium. You may also remember them both matside cheering on one of their boys and you knew that "their boys" weren't just those that were born to the Davids. "Their boys" included hundreds of young men who had been driven to tournaments, fed sack lunches, had their entry fees paid or just been loved and encouraged by the Davids who love wrestling and instilled that passion in so many others.
