Captain of Oakland University's first wrestling team and their first NCAA qualifier, John Major has made an impact on the mat and from the corner coaching.

His coaching resume in­cludes stops at Oakland University, Birmingham Brother Rice, Hillsdale High School and Reading High School. John also served as a coach for the USA Michigan Junior National Team in the 1980s. John has had a profound influence as a coach on 29 Michigan high school champions, 97 state-place winners, and 12 high school All-Americans. He has an innate ability to engage and help them to reach their full potential.

He is a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, serves as the past vice-president of the Michigan Wrestling Association and has served numerous terms on the Michigan Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame board.
