Larry Shaw

Larry Shaw graduated from Shady Spring High School in Shady Spring, West Virginia.

He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education and library science from Concord College, and his master's degree in physical education from Marshall University.

He began his teaching career at Clear Fork High School, which has since closed and been consolidated into Liberty Raleigh High School, and served as a volunteer assistant at Shady Spring High School under Coach Dix Manning.

For 31 years, Larry taught and coached at Oak Glen High School.

His Golden Bears have won 13 consecutive West Virginia AA state team championships, a record for all sports in West Virginia, and finished runner up in the West Virginia AAA state team championship five times from 1987-1991. Oak Glen is tied for fifth nationally for consecutive state team titles.

Coach Shaw coached 51 state champions and compiled a dual meet record of 330-96-4 with five Ohio Valley Athletic Conference team championships.

He was named OVAC Wrestling Coach of the Year 12 times and West Virginia AA/A Coach of the Year seven times. Larry was named USA Wrestling's National Coach of the Year in 2008 and was inducted into the Raleigh County Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2000.

Larry and his wife, Cindy, reside in New Manchester.
