Pat FitzPatrick

Pat has been a registered official for the past 32 years. The entire time that he officiated wrestling, he was with the IEWOA. During his long tenure, Pat held all leadership positions within the local organization including one and two-year board member positions many times, vice president three times and the ultimate leader, president, a total of sixteen years Pat officiated at over twenty district tournaments at all levels during his time with the IEWOA. He also officiated at over ten regional tournaments around Eastern Washington including being the head official many times. Pat just completed his tenth Mat Classic Finals in February, 2009. In 2008, Pat received the Meritorious Service Award from the WIAA. In 2009, he was given several plaques from various officiating venues including the Greater Spokane League coaches in recognition of his outstanding officiating for 32 years. Pat FitzPatrick brought to the table a tremendous amount of integrity to the great sport of wrestling. During his entire time of officiating, no one ever accused him of being in favor of one team or the other. He always felt that officiated was bout the athletes and a chance to give something back to the sport. Pat served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Marines. He always believed that wrestling in high school and college prepared him for the Marines and probably helped to save his life. In the sport of wrestling, you have to be prepared for anything. The Marine Corps brought what he learned as a wrestler to a higher level. No one ever worried when Pat was on the mat. Coaches could coach; others could watch the match knowing that the athletes were in great hands. No one ever had to worry about the call that came out of left field. Every year, Pat was the most consistent official. He was simply the best.
