Dave Porter

It can be argued that as a competitor Dave Porter was the definition of a Dominant Big Man. During the early 1960s Porter ruled the heavyweight division in Michigan winning state titles in 62, 63 and 64. After high school Dave attended the University of Michigan on a football scholarship under the agreement of Bump Elliot and wrestling Coach Cliff Keen. While at UofM, Dave captured 2 Big Ten Titles, 2 NCAA Titles and was a 3 time All American. After Michigan, an injury shortened his stay in the NFL. Dave returned to Michigan and began his coaching career at Grand Ledge High School, a career that lasted 35 years and included positions as Head Wrestling Coach and Head Football Coach. He also coached tennis, golf and girls softball. Dave retired in 2005.
