Ruel McPherson

April 29, 1937 - May 01, 2022

There is very little in the world of wrestling that Ruel McPherson hasn't experienced as an athlete , coach, administrator and official.

After winning a state championship in 1955 , Ruel moved to the coaching ranks with positions at Cranbrook High School, Southfield High School, United Oaks Wrestling Club and the championship Hazel Park Junior Olympic teams.

Ruel also coached a United States exchange team on a trip to Iran and hosted teams from Japan, Germany, Mexico, Hungary and Iraq to competitions in Michigan.

As an official, Ruel was a FILA judge, a referee at the Olympic Trials, and officiated at the World Cup.

If that wasn't enough, Ruel co-founded the Michigan Wrestling Club with Dean Rockwell and was instrumental in the careers of Masaaki Hatta, Steve Fraser and Mike Rodriguez.
