Rodney Buttry

Rod Buttry compiled a meaningful record as an assistant coach at Boston University, as well as head coach both at Bridgewater State and Boston College. Specifically, his athletes at Boston College included four conference champions (one of them a 2X champ and another 4X champ), as well as a 2X All-American and national Freshman of the Year.

When, some years ago, Boston stepped up to make a bid for the Olympics, Rod was among the first handful of leaders in the local wrestling community to step forward. Then, when the mayor of Boston wanted to launch the first-ever city-sponsored wrestling club at the L Street Community Center in South Boston, Rod provided invaluable support both by donating the program's mats, as well as volunteering as coach and clinician. Then, when Babson College chose to launch a NCWA program, Rod again stepped forward to provide leadership and volunteer coaching support.

A former elite wrestler, Rod was a multi-time New England wrestling champion, a New York Athletic Club-sponsored athlete in the early 1980s, and a fifth place finisher in the 1984 Olympic Team Trials.

He is known by business associates, former wrestlers, and colleagues throughout the wrestling world as a trustworthy and generous friend, a consummate student of our beloved sport, and a world-class technician. Rod has served over the course of his career as a coach, volunteer clinician, financial donor to wrestling organizations, committee member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Massachusetts Chapter program, and civic-minded businessman. He has been a presence and a force in New England's wrestling community for over two decades.

He and his partner Carol, who is a designer at Nic & Zoe, love to travel.
