Bryce Cook

Bryce Cook Edmonds School 1963-1966 Woodway High School 1967-1989 Edmonds-Woodway High School 1990-1993 Coach Cook began his career as a wrestler for Burlington-Edison High School and was coached by Hall of Famer Bo Campbell. During his high school career he was not only a state wrestling champion in 1958 but also served as sophomore and junior class president and ASB President. Bryce was awarded a wrestling scholarship to Washington State University where he was a Pac 6 champion and a NCAA participant as well as captain of the 1963 wrestling team. Both Bryce and his twin brother Bruce were WSU's "Freshman Athletes of the Year" in 1959. Coach Cook began his coaching career at Edmonds High School in 1963. He was transferred to Woodway High School in 1967 where he remained until he retired in 1993. Bryce was very involved with promoting kid wrestling during the early seventies. He organized his own "Woodchuck Wrestling Camp" and was tri-founder of the "Wrestling Rhinos Wrestling Club" with his brother Bruce Cook and fellow Hall of Fame coach, Mike Hess. During those early days he organized and was director of many high school and kid's wrestling tournaments. He was also very involved with the organization and coaching of the Wrestling Rhinos Kid's wrestling program. During his thirty year career, Bryce coached his team to three WESCO titles, and coached six individual state champions, including his own son Mark in 1984. Bryce never had a losing season and had an amazing overall record of 255-103-2. He is also the past recipient of the Pacific Northwest Wrestling Officials' Award and served as a Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association officer for four years. Additionally, he hosted several cultural exchange teams and in 1989 he was awarded the "AAA Coach of the Year" and also was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame with the class of 1994. Bryce never really retired from wrestling. Around 2003 he went back to his "alma mater" where he acted as a volunteer coach and was a mentor to young high school wrestlers. He has enjoyed watching his grandson Dylan Granard wrestle and win conference and regional titles and placed 3rd in state in 2009. Recently, Bryce was inducted into the Burlington-Edison High School Hall of Fame and received the Reiman-Campbell-Driskell Award for "Outstanding contributions to Wrestling" in 2004-2005. He currently lives with his wife Donna in Mount Vernon. He has two grown children Christy and Mark with five grandchildren. Bryce's hobbies include his classic MG sports car, playing tennis, hunting and fishing. Bryce is still highly involved with the sport of wrestling and continues to contribute and support the local wrestling programs. Wrestling is still his passion and what he enjoys most in life.
