Bruce Cook

Bruce Cook Meadowdale High School 1963 - 1993 Bruce Cook began his wrestling career at Burlington-Edison High school, coached by Hall of Famer Bo Campbell. He became a State Champion in 1958 and helped the Tigers win the State Championship that year. After graduation he attended Washington State University and wrestled for the Cougars. He was team captain his senior year. Upon completion of college, he went to Meadowdale High School and was head coach for 30 years. He started the wrestling program in a brand new school, which had only sophomores and juniors. That was the only year when he did not have wrestlers competing at the state tournament. Bruce's dual record during those thirty years was 165-111-1 and he produced two 2A State Championship teams, eight individual champions, including his sons Scott (1983) and Brad (l984 & 1985). Both sons wrestled for their dad's alma mater at WSU until the wrestling program was dropped. Brad finished at Boise State and Scott at Utah State where he was an All-American in 1987. Coach Cook was selected as the 3A Coach of the Year by the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association in 1982. He also served as treasurer of the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association. Bruce was one of the founders of the Rhino Kids Wrestling Club, served on the state freestyle board and was coach of the Junior National Freestyle Team. Upon retirement from teaching and coaching he went on to be a wrestling official for the Whatcom-Skagit County Officials Association for 13 years. Bruce and his wife Helen have been married for 47 years and now reside in Mount Vernon, Washington during the summer and spend their winters in Mesa, Arizona. Most of their free time is spent playing league tennis and enjoying the sun. Of course there are many visits to Idaho where their sons and families reside. Scott has a son that wrestles and of course has followed his father's tradition, starting a kids wrestling program. Scott's two daughters and Brad's daughter participate in soccer
