Howard Morris
Howard Morris is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.
In 1958, Howard Morris started his coaching career at Tigard high school. In the next 50 years, Coach Morris was involved in all aspects of wrestling and at every level. After five years, he left Tigard to become a coach at Oregon Institute of Technology where he stayed in their wrestling program until 1991.
During his tenure at Oregon Tech, he hosted and directed the NAIA wrestling tournament and served as a member of the National Bracket, Seeding and Tournament Committee. In 1974, he served as president of the NAIA and the same year organized the NAIA cultural exchange program with AAU wrestling.
He was a long time wrestling official and served as commissioner of the Klamath Falls chapter. He organized and directed kids summer camps at Oregon Tech and still found time to publish a Wrestling article in the Athletic Journal.
For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Howard Morris is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame‘s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling“ award for the class of 2008.
