Ron Finley

Ron Finley is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

  • Member of the 1964 Olympic team
  • Coached 11 All-Americans
  • Coached University of Oregon 1970-1998

Coach Finley as a participant was on four USA world teams and in1964 was a member of the USA Olympic team. In 1965, he started his coaching with the US Army national team and in1967 excepted a position at Reedsport high school, where is teams finished second and third in the state tournaments.


During his tenure, his teams won three conference championships and crowned 42 individual champions. He has coached 11 All Americans, including three NCAA runner ups and two 3rd place finishers. One of his All-Americans, Greg Gibson went on to win a silver medal in the 1984 Olympics.

He coached high school, college, and Greco Roman wrestling for over 40 years. For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, RON FINLEY is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame‘s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling“ award for the class of 2008.
