William Hendershot
William V. Hendershot graduated from Sheridan High School and received his BA and MA degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. He was heavily involved in wrestling over the course of 34 years, either as the head coach or as an assistant. He coached at Fort Lupton, Smoky Hill, Cherry Creek and Heritage High Schools. Fort Lupton finished second in state in 1967 and he finished his tenure with the Blue Devils with a 90-14 dual record. Ironically, that was the only team in which he kept track of his teams overall record. He readily admits he does not know his record for his other teams although Smoky Hill, a new school in 1978, finished seventh in the state tournament that season. Nineteen of his wrestlers placed in the state tournament, including three champions. He was at Cherry Creek from 1980-1991 and at Heritage from 1991-1997 where he served as the school's Athletic Director. He returned to Cherry Creek from 1998-2001. He also was an age group wrestling coach for several years while working for each of his schools. He is retired and living in Highlands Ranch. He and wife, Mary, have five children, Kelly, Angie, Chris, Steve and Stacey.
