Glenn Jones
January 01, 1952 - December 31, 2024
Glenn Jones was the head wrestling coach at Lackey High School in Charles County, Maryland from 1976-96.
He had a career record of 212-62 at Lackey and twice his teams registered 53-match win streaks.
Jones teams won nine Southern Maryland Athletic Conference dual-meet titles, five Southern Maryland Athletic Conference tournament championships and 52 individual SMAC titles. He also coached Lackey to five regional tournament titles with 26 individual regional champions. Lackey was a regional dual-meet finalist twice under Jones.
He had countless wrestlers qualify for the state tournament and had almost 30 state place-winners, including four state champions and 10 state runners-up, and two second-place team finishes. The year after Jones retired, Lackey won the elusive state championship in 1997 led by Terry Green, who had worked as an assistant for Jones before becoming head coach.
Jones had a long and illustrious career in education, including teaching at Charles County High School, Bumpy Oaks Center, JC Parks Elementary School, Gale Bailey Elementary School, John Hanson Middle School, Matthew Henson Middle School, and La Plata High School.
Jones prided himself on being not only an educator who deeply cared for his students, but also a passionate and inspiring coach. Through his leadership in football, wrestling, and baseball, he not only achieved an impressive array of statistics but also built a community where young athletes thrived. Glenn inspired his "kids" daily, guiding them to grow into hardworking, compassionate, and resilient individuals.
He competed in baseball, football and wrestling and attended Slippery Rock University.
