Andy Davidson

A native of Indiana, where he excelled in wrestling and football, Andy recorded the fastest fall in school history at 11 seconds while being a three time sectional champion. He took his career to William Penn College in Oskaloosa where he was a NCAA Division III All-American in 1979 and also recorded the Statesmen's fastest fall. After being a captain the team's MVP, he went into a high school teaching and coaching career. For the past 27 years he has taught and coached wrestling, amassing a dual meet record of 221-80 going into this year. He coached the Mustangs to a state championship in 1984 and his 2000 and 2001 squads qualified for the State Dual Team Tournament. All told prior to this year he has mentored 85 state qualifiers, 22 place winners, six finalists and two champions. One of his former wrestlers Eric Voelker won two NCAA titles at Iowa State in 1987 and 1988. A six-time south central district coach-of-the-year he has been a leader in the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, chairing numerous committees. He and his wife, Lea, a school administrator, have a son, Clarke and a daughter, Jenna.
