Vincent Viglione

For 33 years, Vinnie Viglione's wrestling teams took the mat in the tough Merrimack Valley Conference. Vinnie's exploits on the mat extended into his commitment to young people, his strong personal integrity and his outstanding work ethic.

Vinnie was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended West Morris Regional High School, in New Jersey, where he played football and wrestled. Vinnie then attended Parsons College, where he started at linebacker. He graduated from Parsons College in 1970.

After graduation, Vinnie traveled to Massachusetts on a suggestion from his college roommate, and found a job teaching at Billerica High School. For the next 33 years, Vinnie would teach, as well as coach football and wrestling, and become a permanent fixture in wrestling circles in Massachusetts. During his coaching career, Vinnie coached two state championship teams, two runners up and five third-place teams. Vinnie coached 18 State Champions and six New England Champions. His teams won the Most Valuable Champions four times, the North Sectionals three times and the States in 1983 and 1993. His overall record was 350-155-6. Vinnie earned Boston Globe Coach of the Year honors in 1983 and 1993. He is a member of the New England Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Interscholastic Wrestling Association Hall of Fame and the Billerica High School Hall of Fame.

Vinnie retired from the Billerica Schools in 2004. He lives in Chelmsford with his lovely wife Beverly, his daughter Jamie and his son Brian, who is also active in wrestling.
