Mike Schueller

Mike Schuelier grew up in Herman, Minnesota, where he wrestled and played football. During is senior year, he was captain of both the football and wrestling teams and qualified for the state tournament in wrestling. Mike wrestled all four years at St. Cloud State University, while earning a degree in physical education and social studies. He qualified for the NAIA national tournament in both his junior and senior years. Following graduation in 1967, Mike took a job as freshman football coach and assistant wrestling coach at St. Cloud Cathedral High School. Cathedral won the Minnesota State Catholic title that year. The following year Mike accepted a teaching job in Wisconsin at Superior High School. Mike was head wrestling coach and assistant football coach while at Superior. In 1970-71, Mike attended Bemidji State University and earned a Masters Degree. At Bemidji, Mike served as assistant wrestling coach on a team that finished fourth in the NAIA National Tournament. For the next three years, Mike was the head wrestling coach at Ada, Minesota. Mike was very active in State wrestling organizations. He hosted cultural exchange teams and AAU and USWF tournaments. He was a USWF area representative for many years and was an assistant coach on the state freestyle team in the late 70's. For 12 years (1979-1991) Mike was an officer of the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association, serving as president from 1987-89. He was team leader for the Wisconsin teams in the Minnesota-Wisconsin High School Wrestling Classic in 1988 and 1989. In 1991, Mike moved into administration and had to give up coaching so he became a wrestling official. He quickly became one of the prominent officials in the state and has worked the last two WIAA state individual tournaments. Mike was also one of the founders of the Central Wisconsin Wrestling Officials Association and served as a director from 1997-2002. Mike and his wife Mimi live in Wausau. They have three children; Jana, Jon and Sarah.
