Robert Levija

Coach Bob wrestled heavyweight and graduated from Chicago State University. After coaching football at Winona State College, Minnesota he decided to relocate to Springstead High School as a teacher and football coach. Since the school didn't have a wrestling program he decided to start one. After convincing the athletic director Greg O'Connell all that was left to do was raise the money for a mat, uniforms, scale and shoes for his first team. His first teams were made up of difficult kids many of whom caused a lot of trouble in school and were without direction. Bob's love for the kids and the sport of wrestling changed lives throughout his career as a coach. He built one of the most successful wrestling programs in the state of Florida. Coach Levija worked his program year around helping his wrestlers compete in off season tournaments, attend wrestling camps and travel to US Regional and National Tournaments. His accomplishments include 16 District Titles, 12 Conference Titles, six Regional Titles, State runner-up in 1997, nine time conference coach of the year, who coached 7 individual State Champions and his teams to a record of 318-30-1 in 23 seasons. Bob is now the athletic director at Springstead High School where he can continue to mentor Eric Swenson, his replacement.
