Robert Burns

Coach Bob Burns graduated from Penn State University in 1979. He began coaching wrestling at Clearfield Area Middle School, PA in 1980. He came to Florida in 1982 to Glades Central High School in Belle. From 1983 to 1989 he taught and coached at Pope John Paul High School in Boca Raton. His final move was to Deerfield Beach High School where he remains today. To his credit Robert has had 28 wrestlers go on to wrestle in college. His honors include; 1982 Palm Beach County, West Division, Coach of the Year, in 1994 he received the "John Kingery Coaches Award, in 2001 he was selected as the Broward County High School Physical Education "Teacher of the Year", in 2002 he was selected as the Deerfield Beach High School "Teacher of the Year", in 2005 he was honored by the City of Deerfield Beach with "Robert Burns Day" on May 30th, 2005. Bob helped to host the FHSAA State Wrestling Championships in West Palm Beach from 1990 to 1992. He hosted a 32 team holiday tournaments for five years. The finals were televised for several of those years. Bob has attained the highest levels of accomplishment in his profession as both a coach and teacher.
