Jerry Perez

Jerry Perez Wrestling Official: 1960-1993 Jerry Perez was a very accomplished wrestler, he was a four time Oregon High School State finalist, and was three times a High School State Champion for Sutherlin High School in Oregon. Following his high school career he wrestled for the legendary Dale Thomas at Oregon State University where he was a 3 time Pac Ten champion, 3 time NCAA National competitor and placed 3rd in the AAU National Championships. He was honored as the 1962 Outstanding Wrestler of the Pacific Coast Conference Championships. Jerry Perez made his greatest contribution to the sport of wrestling as an official. He officiated as total of 33 years, three in Oregon and thirty (30) in Washington. He officiated at 29 consecutive Washington State tournaments and was the head referee at 24 of those tournaments. Jerry estimates over his career that he officiated over 12,000 youth, high school and college wrestling matches. He worked numerous collegiate postseason events in addition to the high school events. Jerry has been honored by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association with their "Meritorious Service Award" in 1970 and 1980 for outstanding contributions to the youth of Washington State through officiating. The Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association recognized Jerry Perez in 1990 with their "Official of the Year" award. Jerry retired from the Pacific Northwest Wrestling Officials Association after an outstanding 33 year career in officiating. Jerry is known for his king-sized heart and gym-warming sense of humor as well as his stature with his whistle.
