Jerry Fenton

Jerry Fenton is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership in citizenship in young people through the score the wrestling.

After a successful high school wrestling career at Milwaukie High School, Jerry attended Portland State University where he was a two-time Oregon collegiate champion. During his 26 years at Rex Putnam High School his teams finished 10th, fifth, second, and in 1971 won the state team championship. Coach Fenton had 35 individual district champions, 27 state place winners and seven state champions.

Besides coaching, Jerry found time and was very active with the state wrestling Association. His committee work included writing and proposal for state dual meet Championships, District guideline notebook, and Wilco district and sub district brackets and tournament planning. In 1978 he started the old-timers wrestling tournament which continued for 16 years.

For his dedication and lasting influence on Wrestling, Jerry Fenton is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling” award for the class of 2007.
