Dorothy (Dort) Mayabb’s journey in announcing officially began in 2000 at the University of Central Missouri, and just two years later, she took the mic at Oak Park High School. From that point forward, she never looked back — forging a path as one of the most respected and recognized voices in amateur wrestling and beyond.

Over the years, Dort has brought energy, professionalism, and heart to a wide variety of high school sports, with wrestling being her front-facing focus. In addition to wrestling, she has announced volleyball, basketball, and soccer, serving schools across the Midwest. She has had the distinct honor of calling multiple High School State Championships in Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana — each event a testament to her passion for storytelling and creating unforgettable atmospheres for athletes and fans alike.

At the collegiate level, Dort has been a staple behind the mic at some of the most prestigious wrestling events in the country. Her résumé includes over a decade with the NAIA Men’s National Championships, 15 years with the NCAA Division II Men’s Championships, and, more recently, two years announcing the NCWWC (now NCAA) Women’s National Championships — a groundbreaking event for women’s collegiate wrestling. She currently serves as “The Voice” of University of Iowa Volleyball, Women’s Wrestling, and Softball, where her distinctive presence adds energy, credibility, and pride to every competition.

On the national and international stage, Dort is a trusted voice for USA Wrestling, the sport’s official governing body in the United States. Her announcing credits include some of the sport’s most high-profile competitions:

Outside the arena, Dort lives in Iowa City, Iowa, with her husband, Gary Mayabb, Associate Head Women’s Wrestling Coach at the University of Iowa. Together, they’ve built a life rooted in family and the sport they love. They are proud parents to three daughters — Katie (Brent), Kelsey (Chris), and Breeley — and deeply blessed grandparents to seven grandchildren: Eloise, Remy, Collins, Grady, Garner, Conley, and Gentry.

Dort believes wholeheartedly that the greatest gifts in her life have come from God — and Wrestling. Behind the microphone, her journey is a reflection of both, woven together in every word she speaks, every athlete she supports, and every moment she helps bring to life.
