From a young age, Cody exemplified persistence. It was his defining trait. He began playing soccer early on, forming friendships that would last a lifetime. As soon as he had the chance, he joined his friends on the football field. Wrestling followed, and it was this sport that instilled in him a profound sense of commitment and dedication. Cody approached every challenge with a promise to himself: whether he faced victory or defeat, he would always give his best. This tenacity extended beyond sports to academics, jobs, and life itself. Wrestling equipped him with invaluable life skills that he applied daily.

Cody had a passion for the outdoors—he enjoyed biking, camping, and off-roading, and he was an avid dirt bike and mountain biking enthusiast. His journey led him to become a police officer, where he faced new challenges.

After graduating from Odessa High School in 2007, he began his law enforcement career with the Layfette County Sheriff Department before going to the Grandview Police Department in 2010, where he faithfully served for 6 years. In 2017, he began his career and found a home with the Independence Police Department, sacrificially serving his community with honor.

Cody was tragically killed in the line of duty after suffering fatal gunshot wounds on February 29, 2024, after responding to a 911 call where another officer had been shot. When he became a father, he embraced this new role with pride and joy, proving to be an exceptional father of two children. His unwavering dedication stemmed from the influence of remarkable coaches, loyal friends, committed teachers, and inspiring mentors. He cherished every lesson learned and integrated them into his life, shaping him into the incredible person he was. He is sorely missed by his wife, two children, family, friends, and the Independence community he served so bravely.
