Mat Clark

July 28, 1965 - Present

Mat Clark’s passion for wrestling ignited over four decades ago when he first stepped onto the mat, and that passion continues today as he serves as a top-tier official and mentors younger officials. As an athlete for North Fremont High School, Mat earned three Idaho state titles in the early 1980s and continued his mat career at Ricks College earning All-American honors at the National Junior College Championships, before continuing his competitive journey at Brigham Young University and Northern Arizona University.  After college, Mat continued to pour himself into his passion for the sport as a coach at Soda Springs, South Fremont (Head Coach), and North Fremont High Schools. Within a thirty year span, Mat impacted many athletes and was an integral part of coaching 183 state place winners, which includes 56 individual state champions in addition to eight state championship teams and sixteen top four finishes overall. According to Ben Lenz, “Mat was exceptional in his field of work and I’ve always admired his dedication and commitment to North Fremont in everything he did.”  Mat’s passion for the sport carried over to the whistle where for twenty-eight years he officiated in eastern Idaho and abroad, to include six Idaho State Championships as well as being the Rules Interpreter for District VI.
