Layne Dalley

November 30, 1953 - Present

Layne Dalley’s thirty-four years committed to the sport of wrestling in Eastern Idaho and abroad is appreciated by many. His journey from a dedicated coach, pouring countless hours into his athletes, to becoming a well-respected official on the mat is very noteworthy and speaks volumes about his passion for the sport. A graduate of Brigham Young University, Layne dedicated his life to teaching and growing the sport of wrestling. His long coaching tenure comprised of leading the Eagle Rock Junior High (now Middle School) program for over thirty years in addition to being assistant coach at Skyline High School, and committing countless hours with the local kids program and Freestyle Club. According to Alan Gardner, 2010 Hall-of-Fame inductee, “Layne helped prepare young wrestlers to move forward and be successful at the high school level. He also helped establish a very successful kids program that fed the junior high and high school programs.” Layne also gave back to his community by becoming an official on the mat and eventually taking a leadership role as the Commissioner of District VI for over twenty years. Accordingly, he officiated locally and throughout the region, which included fifteen Idaho State Tournaments, and as Commissioner ensured that all athletes benefited from a safe and fair experience and had excellent opportunities. Layne’s commitment to the growth of wrestling in Idaho coupled by his dedication to developing exceptional student-athletes for life is commendable!
