Greg Jenkins

At a large early-season tournament in 2026, an unusually distinguished group of officials showed up. Hall of Fame officials Mark Ingrao, Mike Ingrao, Ed Rawlins, and Mark Sudik were on hand and rounding out the elite crew was a worthy addition, 2026 Virginia Chapter honoree Greg Jenkins.

Wrestling has been the constant in his life. Starting in sixth grade, he made his mark at Manassas Park High School, where he became the first state champion for the Cougars in 1978. He then embarked on a busy life spending 36 years as a manager for Giant Food, 45 years as a husband to Linda and father to Kirby, Candace, and Corey, five years of post-retirement work for his alma mater, and a move to South Carolina.

Throughout his career wrestling has been a period of consistent excellence. Greg, whose email moniker is "Matboss," has been chosen to oversee 75 district, 70 regional, and 24 Virginia High School League state tournaments. Other high-profile events he's worked include three VA vs. MD state championship dual meets, four I-64 tournaments, and five Super 32 qualifiers.

Jenkins also committed to a busy round of youth coaching with his Cougar Wrestling Club feeding local NOVA high schools and producing nine state champions, six runners-up, and 18 state-placers. A stint of coaching at Manassas Park Middle School yielded eight more state champions.

His recent move to Myrtle Beach has him promoting the introduction and important expansion of youth and female wrestling in South Carolina. He has officiated two boys and girls state championship tournaments, two girls lower state championships with a parallel event for boys, and two rounds of the boys dual team state championships.

Jenkins' membership in wrestling associations reinforces his commitment. In addition to 42 years in the Northern Virginia Wrestling Officials Association, he has served 15 years with the Northern Virginia Youth Wrestling Federation, 12 years with the USA Wrestling Federation, and two years with the South Carolina High School League.

His lifetime of coaching, officiating and organization has led to multiple awards. He is a member of the Manassas Park High School Athletics Hall of Fame and received the career achievement award from NVWCA Officiating. Jenkins now adds the Hall of Fame green jacket as a Lifetime Service to Wrestling award recipient.
