Davey Blake

October 20, 1978 - Present

Davey Blake grew up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and attended Kent County High School where he was a 3x Maryland State Champion and 4x state finalist. He finished his prep career with a 141-2 record, was a Cliff Keen High School All-American, and was the Maryland recipient of the 1998 Dave Schultz Award as the most outstanding senior wrestler in the state. Blake entered the MPSSAA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.

Blake wrestled for 3 seasons at Appalachian State University where he was a part of the 2001 Southern Conference Championship team and finished 2nd at 149lbs at the 2001 Southern Conference Championships. Blake transferred to Western Maryland/McDaniel College to finish his degree and wrestling eligibility. He was a part of Western Maryland’s 2002 Centennial Conference Championship team and was a Centennial Conference Runner-up at 141lbs in 2003. Injuries cut short his junior and senior seasons but Blake finished his career as one of the most talented wrestlers to don a Green Terror singlet.

Upon finishing his competition career, Blake immediately stepped into coaching, He spent 4 years as the assistant coach at McDaniel before taking over as the head wrestling coach for the next 11. During his time on staff as an assistant and head coach, Blake mentored athletes to seven NCAA All-America performances, 15 NCAA qualifiers, 14 individual Centennial Conference Championship performances, as well as more than 30 Centennial Conference medals.  Blake sits 3rd on the All-Time wins list for WMC/McDaniel wrestling coaches, coached 2 Centennial Conference Wrestlers of the Year, 2 Centennial Conference Outstanding Wrestlers, 3 Chris Clifford Award winners (Centennial’s most accomplished 4- year career of graduating senior), and 2 Alexander Award Winners (McDaniel’s Outstanding Male Athlete).

Blake is now the Head Women’s Wrestling Coach at Francis Scott Key High School. In its first 4 seasons, FSK has grown from a roster of 4 to 20, placed 9 girls on the state championship podium, finished 3rd at the Maryland State Championships, and won the inaugural Carroll County Girls Wrestling Championships in 2023.

Blake lives in Westminster, MD with his wife, Caitlin, and two children, Julia and Joseph.
