Fritz Blasius
Frederick "Fritz" Blasius, Jr. is President of Blasius Chevrolet Cadillac in Waterbury, Connecticut. Born and raised in Waterbury, he attended Holy Cross High School, where he wrestled for four years. After graduating from Michigan's Northwood Institute, he joined the family-owned automotive business.
He has been instrumental in building the business to be the largest General Motors (GM) dealership in Connecticut for the past 25 years, one of the largest GM dealerships in New England, and ranked among the top 50 Chevrolet dealers in the country.
Fritz has been involved in numerous philanthropic causes over many years. He started the "Little Flower Fund" which has provided over $700,000 worth of tuition assistance to youngsters to attend local Catholic grammar schools.
He has served on the boards of Holy Cross High School and St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, as well as serving as a former Trustee for the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and former board member of The Hartford Bishops' Foundation. He is a major financial sponsor of the Robert Westberg Scholarship Fund and was the founder and past board member of Waterbury's Police Activities League (PAL) organization.
Fritz has donated funds to many worthwhile organizations over the years including Sacred Heart High School, Salvation Army, the Boys and Girls Club of Waterbury, Brass City Cares, Waterbury Firefighters and the United Way.
He supported and sustained the Holy Cross wrestling program, purchasing new mats and funding summer camps for wrestlers. He provided transportation for athletes to national tournaments, wrestling gear to students in multiple programs (Xavier, Trumbull, Bridgeport Central) and has been a long-time sponsor to the Connecticut Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Fritz's high school wrestling years provided him with experiences that proved influential in his adult business and philanthropic endeavors. It was at that time that he developed a life-long love for the sport of wrestling and an appreciation for the unique benefits and life lessons
that being part of a wrestling team can provide the physical, mental, and emotional development of youth.
Fritz has spent the last 50 years supporting Connecticut wrestling programs with the hope that young people will have the same opportunity to receive the benefits from the sport of wrestling that he himself has received.
