Joe Condon
Joe Condon began wrestling at age 9 in the Shoreham-Wading River School District. He wrestled in Middle School under Grand Master Coach Paul Jendrewski and continued his High School career under Grand Master Coach Rocky Davey. At Shoreham-Wading River high school, he was a 4 year starter, team captain, 3x League finalist, Section 11 freestyle champion, and a NYS runner-up in freestyle. He played Divison 1 College soccer at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating in 1992.
He began his wrestling coaching career in Brentwood School District. He coached The South Middle Wrestling team from 1995-2001 and was an Assistant Coach at Brentwood High School under Hall of Fame Head Coach Bob Panariello from 1996-2001. Condon continued his coaching career back at his alma matter, Shoreham-Wading River School High School in 2002. Joe Condon was an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Don Jantzen from 2002-2007. He became the Varsity Coach at Shoreham Wading River High School in 2008, and is still presently coaching the Wildcats. He also served as the head coach for the SWR Youth Wrestling team from 2001-2016. He has been the director for the SWR Youth Tournament (Now the Richie Anderson Memorial Tournament) for 23 years.
In his tenure at Shoreham-Wading River HS, Coach Condon has led his team to 313 wins, 3 Suffolk County Titles, 5 Suffolk county Runner-up finishes, 7 League titles, and a NYS team Runner-up finish. Under his leadership, the Wildcats have been ranked in the NYS Top 20 a total of 18 times. Wrestlers he has coached, achievements include: 4 National Champions, 20 All-Americans, 6 NYS Champions, 10 NYS Finalists, 30 All-State wrestlers, 23 Suffolk County Champions, 124 All-county wrestlers, 58 league champions, and 20 members of the Suffolk County Wrestling Coaches Association Century Club. He earned Newsday’s Long Island HS Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2021, Suffolk County Coach of the year 3X, and League Coach of the year 7X. His mentors and role models include Paul Jendrewski, Wade “Rocky” Davey, Paul Cathey, Tony Perna, Bob Panariello, Don Jantzen, and Joe Ferreira. these men had a major influence on his life and career. Coach Condon lives in Shoreham, NY with his wife Linda, and has 4 children (Ryan, Gia, Ava, and Kya). He has been a part of SWR wrestling for over 5 decades, and he truly bleeds blue and gold!
