Kevin Brodsky
For the past 32 years, Kevin Brodsky has poured his heart and soul into the growth and development of Long Island wrestling. He is a friend, coach and mentor to many accomplished wrestlers, coaches, and officials. Coach Brodsky is known for always “wearing his heart on his sleeve” and for always serving the wrestling community to the best of his ability. He has been a member of the Nassau County Wrestling Coaches Executive Board for the past 16 years and earned 313 wins as head coach of the Jericho Varsity wrestling team. Kevin Brodsky is most deserving of his entrance into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Downstate New York) for his Lifetime Service to Wrestling.
Coach Brodsky began his wrestling career as a 7th grader at Accompsett Middle School in Smithtown. He then continued his Varsity career (1986-1989) at Smithtown West HS under the direction of his long-time mentors, Coach Cliff Heinze and Peter DiGregorio. Kevin was league runner-up in 1989 and finished his career with over 60 wins. Always the competitor, Kevin was not only a wrestler, but he played lacrosse and Judo as well. He continued his lacrosse career at SUNY Brockport where he played Club Lacrosse from 1990-1993. As a Judo player (1995-1999) he was a 5X medalist at the Empire State Games. Kevin has always remained connected to his Smithtown roots and in 2004 he was inducted into the Smithtown Athletic Hall of Fame.
While finishing up his education at SUNY Brockport, Coach Brodsky was able to work alongside Hall of Fame coach John Grillo at Holley Central Schools as an assistant coach. After graduating, he returned home to Smithtown and was the JV assistant coach at Smithtown Central Schools (1995-1996). In the spring of 1996, Kevin was hired as a P.E. and Health teacher at Jericho Public Schools. He served as the Varsity Assistant for 2 years before taking over the Varsity coaching position in 1999.
Now entering his 27th season as head coach at Jericho HS, Coach Brodsky has compiled 313 wins, he has 233 All Conference Wrestlers, 23 All County wrestlers, 4 County Finalists, 1 county champ (Jaison White), and 3 State Qualifiers (Jaison White, Jun Yoo, Joseph Chamish – 4th Place NYS, 2010. Several of Coach Brodsky’s wrestlers have wrestled on the collegiate level: Mike Lupa (University of Maryland), Jun Yoo (University of Pennsylvania), Joey Chamish (SUNY Binghamton), Obi Ajah (Princeton), Jaison White (Ithaca) and Alex Guidice (Mercyhurst). Jericho had its best season in 2013 where they finished tied for 8th in the county tournament that year. For his many successes Coach Brodsky was named league coach of the year in Nassau County 4x.
Kevin has been married to his wife Lauren for 27 years and they have 2 children Hayley, 25 and Ryan, 22. None of this would be possible without the love and support from his family and friends. Coach Brodsky would like to thank all the many Assistant, JV coaches and Middle coaches that have work with him.
