Joseph Burton

Joe Burton was a 1969 graduate of Ravenswood High. He was the first wrestler to compete for RHS. In 1965 under Coach Bob Maxwell Joe as the first 2-Time Conference Champion and the first 2-Time Regional Champion. Also, Joe was first 2-Time State Placer at 4th and 3rd Place. In 2022, Joe was honored to be inducted into Ravenswood High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.

After high school, Joe helped start Pee Wee Wrestling in Wirt County, where he sent many good, young wrestlers on to high school. In 1992, Joe moved to the high school where he helped Matt Ashley develop a great wrestling program at Wirt County High School. During this time, Wirt County won 17 individual state titles and was the State Team Runner-up 4 times.

Joe retired in 2014, but came back as an assistant, where Wirt won two more individual state titles. Joe still helps with the programs at Wirt County and Ravenswood. Teaching this great sport to young men and women has been such an honor .... being elected to the WVWHOF just tops it off.

Joe and his wife, Tammy of 25 years reside in Wirt County. They have 3 children, Shauna, Courtney and Aaron. Joe also has 3 stepchildren, Danny, Ben and Billy. Joe and Tammy also have 6 Grandchildren.
