Lynn Knudson took the reins of a Mountain Home wrestling program that despite the best efforts of the series of outstanding coaches that preceded him had languished, never rising more than midway through the ranks of other teams in Idaho.  In short order under his leadership, Mountain Home Wrestling developed into a top-tier program rivaling the best in the state.  In his 26-year tenure at the helm, Coach K’s teams brought home six conference championships, 2 district championships, and placed in the top four statewide 6 more times on the performances of 15 state champions and 97 state place winners.  Lynn was recognized for his outstanding leadership as District III Coach of the Year (3X) and Idaho 4A Coach of the Year (2X). The strategic “program approach” that Lynn built included Little Man Wrestling through the Mountain Home Parks and Recreation department, introduction of a four team Elementary School Wrestling league, and a highly competitive Middle School Wrestling team, each of which collaborated with the Mountain Man Wrestling USAW Club and were aligned with the high school philosophically and tactically.  This approach was lauded as the ideal by district leadership and emulated by other sports programs in Mountain Home and beyond.  Lynn has been a leader in the community outside the wrestling room as well.  He was one of the founders of the Optimist Club chapter in Mountain Home established to promote youth activities and sports, including purchasing land and building a motocross track and rodeo grounds.  Lynn was also a member of Mountain Home Fire Department for 28 years, holding positions as lieutenant, captain, and training officer.
