Carl Koenig

Carl Koenig's years of commitment and dedication to the sport of Wrestling epitomizes his numerous accomplishments in our great sport.

Carl has left an indelible mark on the mats as a wrestler, coach, official and President of the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

On the wrestling front, Carl's achievements are equally noteworthy Carl wrestled three seasons collegiately at Oswego State from 1965 to 1968 and then started coaching in 1969. He coached Oxford HS in Section 4 to an undefeated mark in the 1973-74 season in addition to coaching 3 Class Sectional championship teams. After his retirement from coaching, Carl started officiating wrestling in both the high school and college levels. Carl's excellence as an official led him to officiate elite events such as 13 appearances in the EIWA College Wrestling championships, many NYS Collegiate Championships, SUNY Conference, Junior College and NCAA Division III Championships. At the high school level Carl officiated every Section 4 Tournament Championships from 1974 to 2010. Carl is a member of both the Section 4 and EIWOA Halls of Fame.

Beyond his personal accomplishments, Carl's dedication to Wrestling is absolutely remarkable. Carl formerly served on numerous boards that included President and Vice President of the New York State Wrestling Officials Association, President and assignor of the Section 4 Wrestling officials association and currently serves on the Finger Lakes Regional Training Center Board, Vice President for the EIWOA and serving outstanding leadership as President on the board for the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. His leaderships on the boards he serves on are beyond noteworthy as Carl' s excellence continues in his unwavering journey.

Carl Koenig's professional career included Teaching at Oxford MS; in addition, he served as an administrator at both Oxford and Greene school districts.

Carl presently serves as an educational consultant and hearing officer for superintendent hearings at DCMO BOCES, in addition to serving on the Oxford Town Board of Directors and Chairs the Oxford Academy Hall of Distinction Committee.

In addition, during the summers Carl worked under the direction of Ben Nelson at Camp Dudley along with his friends Charlie Stratton, Mike Marks, Don Cooper and others. Camp Dudley played a special part in his life.

The chapter acknowledges the many earned outstanding accomplishments of Carl Koenig and welcomes him into the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
