Tony Leon

Tony Leon attended Brawley High School and Imperial Valley Community College.

He worked for the Brawley Union High School District (BUHSD) for 31 years, retiring as director of maintenance and transportation.

During his career, he also built one of the most successful wrestling programs in Southern California as the BUHS varsity wrestling coach, leading his teams to 23 CIF championship titles and three dual-meet CIF championships.

His passion for mentoring young athletes extended far beyond competition.

Under his leadership, the Wildcats earned 24 consecutive league championships, produced 25 CIF-SD section champions and celebrated four state championship place-winners.

He was the California Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year while also being a member of the California Wrestling Hall of Fame and a recipient of a lifetime achievement award for his impact on youth athletics.

Most recently, Mr. Leon coached Calipatria High School to a CIF Division 5AA football championship, continuing his tradition of excellence and leadership.

He returned to Brawley as an assistant wrestling coach in 1998, and became head coach in 2001.

His teams have won 24 consecutive league championships and 17 California Interscholastic Federation division championships. Leon’s teams have also placed in the Top Three at the San Diego Masters Meet five times.

Leon has coached 25 CIF-SD section champions, four CIF state championship place-winners, and numerous California USA Wrestling place-winners.

and was inducted into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2022.
