Jim Hewitt is renowned for his tireless dedication, fierce loyalty, and transformative influence on his wrestlers.
He instilled discipline, resilience, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the mat.
Starting in 1975, Jim Hewitt's nearly 50-year career shaped generations of wrestlers. His relentless drive, unmatched passion for the sport, and ability to mentor young athletes made him one of the most admired figures in wrestling. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he inspired and the standards of excellence he set.
Hewitt wrestled at Ball State University and for the United States Marine Corps.
He began his coaching career in 1975 and dedicated nearly 50 years to developing young athletes and elevating the sport of wrestling. Hewitt coached at Medina Senior High School, Brunswick High School, Cuyahoga Community College, Saint Ignatius High School and Buckeye Senior High School.
Hewitt had over 235 dual meet wins and won the Disney Duals in 2001 and 2008 while placing 3rd in 1999 and 2nd in 2000. He led teams to Junior Olympics championships in 2000, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Among the wrestlers he coached were two-time NCAA champion Dean Heil, NCAA champion and World team member Dustin Kilgore, and NCAA runner-up Mike Miller.
Over the decades, he became a respected figure in the wrestling community, known for his passion, discipline, and unwavering commitment to his wrestlers.
