Bernard (Bernie) Chatman
Bernard (Bernie) Chatman was a three-year letterman while wrestling in high school and went on to compete in college while attending Stevens Tech in Lancaster from 1968-70.
He has been a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association wrestling official for 38 years and is still active. Bernie has officiated countless dual meets and has officiated 30 PIAA district championships, 15 PIAA regional championships, and 10 PlAA individual state championships.
Chatman also serves as the president of the Rod Tate Chapter, PIAA Wrestling Officials Association, District 6.
Bernie has been an NCAA certified wrestling official for 30 years and served on the Board of the Eastern Wrestling League and a member of the Eastern Wrestling League Officials Association since 1985 and served on its board of directors. In addition to dual meets and league championships, he has officiated two NCAA Division ll National Championships and 15 NCAA Division I, Il and III regional tournaments.
Chatman graduated from Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1973. He also has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Elizabethtown and a master's degree in education from Wilkes University, both earned in 1999.
Bernie is currently the CEO/Owner of Keystone Investigative and Security Specialists, LLC and retired in January 1998 from the Pennsylvania State Police after 25 1/2 years and resides in Altoona.
Chatman lost his beloved wife, Joan, with whom he had two children Bernard Jr. and Nathan.
