Daymon Royster
Daymon Royster is an award-winning coach who has posted more than 200 victories during his career.
Much of his success has come as the head coach at Milford Mill Academy, a program he has led since 1999 that has repeatedly qualified for the regional duals. He has been named Maryland’s coach of the year and also twice selected as the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore County coach of the year.
“Daymon Royster has a heart of gold and is one of the finest people I know,” said Tracey A. Dowling, Overlea High’s mathematics chair. “When a student, a coach, a teacher, a parent or a friend needs him, he is always there. There are no bounds to his personal sacrifice. Whether it’s his time, or the use of his classroom space, he is always willing to give and asks for nothing in return.”
Daymon’s first year of coaching started with a record of 1-9, but he steadily built up his wrestlers until his team had a breakout season in 2004, going 13-2 and sparking a streak of nine winning seasons. Many of his athletes look up to him as a father figure.
He is known for expertly hosting tournaments, complete with top-notch food, including the regional competition six times.
Daymon’s brother Malik said the Royster family has “set up, run and torn down over 50 wrestling tournaments, medleys, camps, All-Star, rodeos and crossover events at Milford Mill Academy over the past two decades.”
He has been inducted into the Baltimore County Hall of Fame and won the MPSSAA Service to Wrestling Award.
