Mike Swinson

Mike has been involved with wrestling since high school as a wrestler, volunteer coach, and official spanning six decades. He has been an Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) official for 34 years during which time he was selected for 28 AHSAA state tournaments, 22 AHSAA sectional tournaments, 6 AHSAA state dual tournaments, and recognized as AHSAA Official of the Year. He also officiated in the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) for 6 years including 6 AISA state tournament assignments, and in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NWCA) for 3 years. In total, he has officiated an estimated 30,000 matches in his career.

 

From 2011 to 2014, he was on the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Rules Committee in Indianapolis, Indiana as the Officials representative. He has served in various leadership capacities with the Southern Wrestling Officials Association (SWOA) and the Birmingham Wrestling Officials Association (BWOA). He shook Dan Gables hand in 1981.

 

Mike has worked for Alagasco (now called Spire) for 35 years in various leadership capacities. He has been married to Jennifer for 34 years and they reside in Vestavia. They have two sons – Jake, who is a Lieutenant in the United States Army after graduating from West Point; and Sam, who will be graduating this year from George Washington University with a degree in political science/public policy.
