Garvin Edwards
· 34years of service as a coach (retired from Georgia in 2018 - now teaching and coaching in Opelika, AL)
· Native of Rome, GA
· Graduate of West Rome (GA) High School - 1981
· Graduate of Berry College - B.S. Health and Physical Education - 1988
· 16 years as head coach at Armuchee High School (Rome, GA)
· 14 years as head coach at Cartersville High School
· 4 years as head coach at Opelika (AL) Middle School
· Founded Armuchee Takedown Club (K-5 wrestling program) which served all of Rome and Floyd County schools as the only youth program at that time and Canes Takedown Club to build interest and support of school team/programs
· 6X GHSA state tournament director and host while at Armuchee HS
· Led Armuchee HS to GHSA state championship in 1991 and state runner-up finishes in 1989 and 1995
· Coached teams at Armuchee and/or Carterville to ten top 5 state finishes as well as coaching 22 individuals to state championship titles
· Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) State Coach of the Year (1991)
· 5 time Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year
· USA Wrestling’s State Coach of the Year (1991)
· Wrestling representative for GHSA/GACA advisory board (2000-2004)
· Regularly traveled with teams to summer camps including Iowa Camp of Champs, Appalachian State, Grandy School of Wrestling, and NC State
· Served as camp director at Armuchee for University of Oklahoma wrestling camps-three summers (1991-93)
· Head coach for Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) All-Star Classic (1989)
· Fourteen of his former wrestlers now serve as wrestling coaches themselves
· Five of his former assistants were promoted to head coaching positions
· 12 wrestlers at Armuchee/Cartersville signed collegiate wrestling scholarships
