Tim Owen
This 2005 University High School graduate was born with a chest abnormality, but it could not keep him from wrestling and placing as a senior for the state championship winning Titans. Owen was diagnosed with acute pectis in which his rib cage grew inward onto his chest. His heart and lungs were at risk requiring surgery to have his chest opened and a metal bar inserted to alleviate the problem. The difficult surgery had to be re-done three times and he spent his freshman year of high school in and out of the Intensive Care Unit. The bar made wrestling impossible for a time, but it was removed before his junior season and allowed him to compete for his father, Don. Tim broke his hand four days before the Greater Spokane league district tournament his junior year, but he competed and placed fourth. As a senior he won the district tournament, finished second in regionals and seventh in state for University High School's 4A Championship team.
