Marisol Nugent

Marisol Nugent is honored to be chosen as the Massachusetts recipient of the Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award. Marisol, a 6 time All-American, started her high school career as a freshman, varsity starter at Masconomet Regional High School before transferring to Phillips Academy Andover, one of the top private schools in the country with a reputation for both academic and athletic excellence. There, Marisol competed for the Big Blue under coaches Kassie Archambault and Rich Gorham, was a varsity starter each year, and was captain of the team as a senior. In the off season, Marisol wrestled for Doughboy Wrestling Club under coaches Michael Marshall and David Shunamon. During her senior campaign, Marisol became a National Prep Champion, won a New England championship earning Outstanding Wrestler, and went undefeated in the post season. During the regular season, Marisol competed for Andover in the New England Independent School Wrestling Association (co-ed, folkstyle) where she recorded a 12-4 dual meet record and was ranked 16th in the country at 145 lbs by National Prep Wrestling. She also placed 2nd at the Journeymen Fall Classic and 5th at Super 32, her first tournament back after sitting out for eleven months following ACL surgery and rehab. Prior to her injury, Marisol won the "Battle for the Belt" in becoming a Super 32 Champion in 2018. At that time, she was ranked 3rd in the country at 132 lbs and 10th overall in the 2020 recruiting class by The Open Mat. As an underclassman, Marisol placed 3rd at the 2018 USA wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Oklahoma City and was a two-time Fargo All-American. Marisol was also a Gotham City Open Champion in the cadet division and a finalist in the junior division. In addition to being honored with the Saunders Award, Marisol has also recently been named the proud recipient of the James C. Peckham Scholarship, the New England Pride Scholarship and the Phillips Andover Press Club Award. Off the mat, Marisol graduated from Phillips Academy with a GPA of a 5.075 (based on a 6 point scale). She helped start and coach a women's team at Doughboy Wrestling Club known as "Doughgirls" and co-ran the social media organization, New England Women's Wrestling. Marisol will continue to wrestle for the Lehigh Valley RTC while attending Lehigh University this fall.
