Charles “Sonny” Boyd has been involved in wrestling for over 50 years as a coach, wrestler, contributor, and ambassador.

He wrestled at William Fleming High School in Roanoke, Virginia. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army and then attended Virginia Tech.

He competed in the U.S. Senior Nationals nine times and in the World Senior Championships seven times.

A clinician for several years at the Roanoke Valley Wrestling Association Clinic, Boyd worked alongside coaches at Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia, Virginia Military Institute, and local high schools.
