Steve Kee

Coach Steven Kee is a graduate of Glenville State College, the class of 1966. He coached at Herbert Hoover High School from 1967 until 1988 when he retired from coaching. Coach Steven Kee was instrumental in starting the first youth league program in Kanawha County in 1968. He initiated some of the first junior wrestling programs in the area, including two middle school wrestling squads in Herbert Hoover's attendance area. For the Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Department, Coach Kee organized youth wrestling clinics and trained the youth league's wrestling coaches. Coach Steven Kee's teams were very successful on the mats as well. His squads posted a dual meet record of 289-73- 6. They were the Kanawha Valley Champions six times. He was named the Kanawha Valley Wrestling Coach of the Year on several occasions. Coach Kee produced two regional championship teams. His best team finish at states was 3rd place in 1978. He developed many outstanding All-State wrestlers the likes of Dave Adkins, Jim Shamblin, Randy Robertson, Bob Walker, Bill & Kevin Crede, Max Blizzard, Joe Norman, Alan Wimer, and Jay Martin. Steven Kee resides in Clendenin with his lovely wife Lynn. They have three children Patrick, Kim, and Stephanie, who passed away in 1988. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame honors Steven Kee with a "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" award, class of 2005.
