Kurt Greniger

At age 12 this promising young wrestler won a national title in freestyle wrestling. Unfortunately in 1976, at age 15, a wrestling injury at the Minnesota State AAU tournament left him paralyzed from the waist down. This injury may have ended his wrestling career but not his spirit and determination. This extraordinary individual went on to accomplish some amazing things with his life. A native of Grand Rapids, Kurt took up swimming and won 2 gold and 2 silver medals at the National Wheelchair Championships. He then pursued wheelchair basketball, competing on the Rolling Gophers team in. 1981. Tn 1982 he attended college at Southwest State University and played wheelchair basketball for the Broncos,, serving as Team Captain and leading his team to 2 national championships and 2 runner up finishes. He was named to the All Tournament team 3 times. He received a B. S.Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. He then played on the i986 Junior Olympic Wheelchair Basketball team which played in Brugge, Belgium at the World Cup tournament. He later joinedthe. Sioux F ails Wheelers and played in the Challenge Cup; In 1990 he joined the Courage Rolling Timberwolves basketball teams, playing for 10 years. He also competed on USA basketball teams , receiving several MW honors at both the state and national levels. In the past 20 years he has been involved with wheelchair softball, track and marathons. He participated on a USA track team that competed in World Cup competition in England. He participated on the courage Rolling Gophers softball teams that won 5 national titles. He is currently player/manager of the courage Rolling Twins softball and Minnesota Blaze basketball teams. He has developed his own Cable TV show called "Divers ability," which ran for 5 years. He has also completed 20 marathons and he set a national record in the 1500 meter in track,, winning 3 gold and a silver medal in the National Track Championships. As a member of the USA Track World Championship team he won a gold medal in the 4 X 400 relay team. He also received the men's sportsmanship award. He is currently a 'Staff Reliability Engineer for United Defense, based in Fridley, Minnesota. Kurt Greniger has lived his life with a positive outlook and not let great adversity derail his future. He is a tremendous role model for courage and determination.
