Peter Steinhauer
A fourth generation Coloradoan, Dr. Peter Steinhauer graduated from Golden High School in 1954, where he wrestled, and the University of Colorado in 1958. He is recognized as one of the nation's top dental surgeons and has received numerous honors for his work in dentistry and philanthropy. He is the current chairman of the Board of Regents at the University of Colorado. He has served on the Board of Regents since 1994 and is a two-time chairman. He was presented with CU's George Norlin Award in 1994, the highest recognition presented by CU to outstanding alumni who have demonstrated excellence in their field of endeavor and a devotion to the betterment of society. He was a Navy, Lieutenant Commander in the Dental Corps and served in Vietnam with the Third Marine Division in 1965-1966. He has taught and provided health care in Vietnam annually since 1989. He received the Navy Commendation Medal after the establishment of a cleft lip-cleft palate surgical rehabilitation program for Vietnamese children. Dr. Steinhauer has also been an Associate Professor, Surgical Dentistry, at the CU School of Dentistry and served on numerous CU committees. He and his wife Julianne reside in Boulder.
