Bob Dettmer

An accomplished wrestler, Bob was a state qualifier for Faribault High School in 1969, and a 1971 National Champion at Bemiji State University, where he was a three time All-American. He placed third in 1972 and 1973. He was a four-time Northern Intercollegiate Conference Champion from 1970 - 1973, and was team captain in 1972 and 1973. He was a United States Olympic Team Trials qualifier in 1972, and a Minnesota AAU Grecco Roman Champion that same year. He has been the head coach at Forest Lake High School since 1975. Bob coached cultural exchange team to Turkey in 1976, and was coach for the Minnesota vs Wisconsin All Star Meet in 1994. He has been a certified official for 12 years. His Forest Lake teams have won well over 300 matches and his 1993 team won the State Championship, while his 1983 and 1987 place fifth and fourth respectively. He has coached 16 conference championship teams. He is a member of the NAIA National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Dave Bartelma (Minnesota) Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Bemiji State University Athletic Hall of Fame. He just returned after a two-year stint in the US Army Reserve duty tour, including a six month stay in Kuwait City following 9/11/01. Beyond Bob's great wrestling accomplishments, he is a great American Patriot who has served his country with dignity and honor as a commissioned Chief Warrant Officer in electronic intelligence for the past 20 years.
