Richard Bauerlein
Richard Bauerlein graduated in 1959 from north Carroll High School where he was a three-sport letterman. Following graduation he attended Shepherd College, West Virginia, and letter in football and baseball, before graduation in 1963. Neither institution had wrestling programs at the time hew was enrolled. Dick started the first junior high Wrest Program in 1967 at Westminster Junior High School, and began coaching the Varsity Wrestling at North Carroll high school in 1974.
In 19 years coaching at North Carroll wrestling teams, he compiled a 92% winning percentage while recording 239-21 outstanding dual match record. During his tenure the junior varsity team had an unprecedented 10-year consecutive dual meet winning streak from 1977 to 1987.
His teams won 11 county championships, eight regional championships and in 1994 a state dual meet championship. Dick's teams consistently placed in the top five at the Maryland state tournament.
Coach Bauerlein is credited in and recognized as the originator of the Maryland state dual meet championship. In 1993 he was honored for his accomplishments, dedication and hard work, for the sport of wrestling, by being inducted into the Maryland Secondary Schools Athletic Association Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Perhaps Coach Bauerlein's greatest accomplishment in being a positive role model and influence in the building of character and respect in many young people whose lives he has touched. Coach Bauerlein retired from teaching and coaching in 1996.
Dick married his high school sweetheart, Vicki Green , and they have been married for 51 years. They have three daughter's Ketti, Kelli Mindi. Dick is a successful businessman as co-owner of D&M Transmissions, Inc. in Westminster, MD.
Dick spends much of his free time hunting and fishing with his seven grandchildren. He loves his family dearly and considers them a tremendous blessing from the Lord.
