Richard C. “Dick” Glover's wrestling teams at Woodberry Forest School and Blue Ridge won 535 dual matches, 25 league championships (including a streak titles at Woodberry from 1981 to 2001), 13 state championships and Virginia’s lone National Prep Championship.

Glover came to Woodberry Forest School as a freshman from Charlottesville. From the beginning, he made an impact on his classmates through his personality and competitive spirit. In his senior year, he first met Woodberry’s new football coach, Harry “Red” Caughron. The two struck up a relationship that would last for the rest of Coach Caughron’s life.

After leaving Woodberry, Mr. Glover went on to Wabash College and earned a degree in political science before serving in the United States Marine Corps for five years. As a Marine, he rose to the rank of captain and flew helicopters in Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, which is given for “heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.”

Mr. Glover returned to Charlottesville after his service in the Marines and earned a graduate degree from the University of Virginia.

He had a very successful teaching and coaching career at Blue Ridge School before returning to Woodberry in 1977.

Over his 29 years on the faculty, he served as a history teacher, varsity wrestling coach, and freshman football coach. He was also associate director of admissions, assistant director of the Woodberry Sports Camp, and associate director of athletics.
